News at Work

Since moving to Portland, a lot has happened with my work life.  The original plan was to come up here and do a rotation as a Bodily Injury Claims Specialist.  However, because of office needs, I have spent my time doing a large variety of tasks around the office since the Bodily Injury Department is currently overstaffed.  I have actually enjoyed getting to work in both the Bodily Injury and No- Fault or Personal Injury Protection Departments and getting the chance to really learn a lot about the Insurance industry.  I have had a chance to work on quite a few 'special projects' that I would not have been able to be a part of if I was in charge of my own claims, such as attending a trial, mediation and EUOs (examination under oath).

With that all being said, here is the news at work: As of October 19th, Liberty Mutual will no longer have a PIP department in the Oregon office and will be moving that work to the New Castle, PA office.  That means that 6 woman from our office will either be retiring, considering moving to Pennsylvania or looking for a different position in the Portland, OR area.  This is a sad change for those women, however I really view it as a new opportunity for those to really figure out what they want in life and use this chance to go for it.  You are never too old to make a change.  One woman, Anna, will be using this as the final push to go back to school to become a nurse :-)

So sometimes things come to an end, but I am really excited to see how this experience will end up being a great life change for all of those woman.  I am going through a HUGE change myself with ending my relationship with Cory, and right now it is really tough, but I am just hoping that sometime in the future I will be able to say that the change was for the better.  I see how it will be better for these woman, but it seems like it is a lot harder when you are going through it yourself.

As for me, I am currently 'in' the PIP unit since I have been working with them so much to get caught up on work.  However, this change does not affect me at all since of my position in the Advanced College Hire Program.  So maybe now I will get the chance to start handling some Bodily Injury Claims or I'll get the chance to work on more projects.  Either sounds good to me :-)
